February saw the annual Central Closed competition take place at Dunblane Sports Club. This year saw a record entry with 44 players competing across all are ranges from mini squash up to U19s. With some of our players having had the honour of representing Scotland at European level competition was always going to be fierce and so it proved with many highly comptative matches.
As always thanks must go to Alan and Maureen for all their organising both prior to the event and on the day and also to all the parents who helped everything run smoothly be that by marking matches, running the cafe or providing home baking.
The last Sunday before Christmas saw the 2nd SSRL Junior Doubles Competition which was held at Scotstoun. It was great to see so many Central players competing in this event. Despite a very hectic schedule which meant some players playing as many as 9 matches, there was some great squash on display.
Well done to all our players inparticular Maddie Orr and Lucy Murchie who were 2nd in the Girls Doubles narrowly losing out to Emma Fitzsimmons and Georgia Adderley. Emma, along with her fellow central team mate Jack Orr, also competed in the Mixed Doubles where they came 2nd and our last medalists were Robbie Harper and Adam Gibson who, despite fighting hard, came 2nd in the boys division 2. Great effort from all.
Welcome to the new Central Squash website.
What a fabulous tournament, the Edinburgh 50/50 age group competition took place this weekend. There was a plethora of hard fought matches, particularly the semi-finals between Central’s James Dougan and Jack Orr. They both had to dig deep in some exceptionally long rallies – no-one was giving an inch!! And Jack was physically sick in the final game but came back on, for a nail biting finish and a win for James. The final result in U17 boys was James 2nd and Jack 3rd.
There was a clean sweep of podium finishes for Central in the U15 boys with Fraser Laing at 1, Finlay Martin at 2 and Ben Orr 3. The girls were also in fine form with Maddie Orr comfortably winning the U15 girls with Louise Hunter 3rd and Lucy Murchie winning U13’s. At times it seemed like the rerun of the Inter Regional comp, with Central players giving their all to beat East!!
Well done also to Robbie Harper, Ross Waddell, Kai Brown, Catherine and Duncan Hegarty, Alasdair Findlay and Jamie Cargill.
